Brooklyn Museum

In this 5-week paid internship, interns work toward breaking down art history, politics, and pop culture, and build up platforms to help other teens uncover what feminisms got to do with us. Over five weeks this summer, a select group of twelve NYC high school students will explore the Museum’s collection; talk race, gender, and sexuality; contribute to our new teen-produced website on feminist art; and plan a program for our summer Teen Night based on our special exhibition A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum.

What we do:

  • Week One: Intro to feminism(s), art history, and relevant art movements
  • Week Two: Explore We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women 1965–85
  • Week Three: Analyze and contribute to our teen-created web-based platform bkmdigitalartizens.com
  • Week Four: Develop programming ideas for feminist Teen Night
  • Week Five: Promote, prep, and run Teen Night, with help from teen staff

You will:

  • Meet educators and curators to learn about feminist art in our collections
  • Connect with artists, teens, and other professionals
  • Discuss topics such as feminism, pop culture, and social justice to make connections between art and our world
  • Build and strengthen your communication, critical thinking, media, and visual literacy skills
  • Get paid a $300 stipend, as well as a Metrocard for travel

You are:

  • A current NYC high school student
  • At least fourteen years old
