![]() Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Duane Reade Opens on Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene
(Brooklyn, NY Aug. 2, 2002) - For two years the Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project LDC (MARP) has been bombarded with requests from residents for a large drug store/ pharmacy. With Duane Reade having opened on August, 1 maybe residents will be able to do more of their shopping locally. MARP worked with the Red Apple Group to bring Duane Reade to Myrtle Avenue. Beginning with an initial discussion in the fall of 2000 about potential tenants for the retail space owned by the Red Apple Group, both have been working to recruit a drug store ever since. Red Apple Real Estate Division President Lou Palermo wanted to get a tenant that would be welcomed by the neighborhood. MARP is hoping that the new store will translate into increased pedestrian traffic along Myrtle Avenue and additional revenues for nearby businesses. MARP Executive Director Jennifer Gerend said, "Duane Reade is an anchor tenant that will provide a major convenience for local residents -- while giving workers from Metro Tech a new reason to cross Flatbush Avenue." A number of new jobs will be created at the store as well, and Duane Reade has expressed an interest in filling these positions locally. MARP and other Fort Greene non-profit organizations are working with Duane Reade to quickly refer applicants for potential hire. ###
