Ammann will be playing “Sunlight Comforter\,” the vibrantly painted piano from artist Arianna Santoriello as part of the 2024 Sing for Hope Pianos project. \nCome enjoy Sebastien Ammann’s concert\, see Arianna’s work\, and plan your moment to play a song or two. The Sing for Hope Pianos are for everyone and anyone to enjoy regardless of your skill level. \nPlease also consider joining for a second pop-up concert as part of the Myrtle Avenue Summer Nights series on Friday\, 6/21\, at 5:30 pm featuring Kateryna Matvieienko. \nThe Sing for Hope Pianos\nFrom the Bronx to Beirut\, the Sing for Hope Pianos program is a global arts initiative that creates artist-designed pianos; places them in public spaces for anyone and everyone to enjoy; then transports and activates them year-round in permanent homes in schools\, hospitals\, transit hubs\, refugee camps\, and community-based organizations. Sing for Hope has provided more pianos for under-resourced public schools than any other organization in the world. \n\nSebastien Ammann \nSince arriving on the New York jazz scene in 2008\, Sebastien Ammann has made a name for himself as a versatile pianist and composer with a distinctive musical identity. Ammann leads several ensembles including Sebastien Ammann’s Gaia Quartet\, Color Wheel\, and the Sebastien Ammann Quartet. He is also a founding member of the improvisational collective\, Henry/Ammann/Pichler/Mok\, renowned for creating pieces in the moment without predetermined ideas \nNot only is Sebastien Ammann a bandleader\, but he’s also a sought-after sideman in numerous projects including guitarist Gene Ess’ Fractal Attraction and the Jake Leckie’s Quartet. He’s has shared the stage with a diverse array of musicians\, such as Kris Davis’ Massive Thread\, Tony Malaby\, Sean Conly\, Michael Formanek\, Billy Drewes\, Gene Ess\, Michael Bates\, Jon Irabagon\, Mark Ferber\, George Schuller\, Dana Leong\, John Hébert\, Samuel Blaser\, Sean Conly and Michael Sarin\, performing in venues and festivals across the USA and Europe. \nAmmann’s work has received recognition in acclaimed publications like Downbeat Magazine (USA)\, Jazz Life (Japan)\, London Jazz News (UK)\, Jazziz (USA)\, Jazz Halo (Belgium)\, El Intruso (Spain)\, Ivan Rod (Danemark)\, Jazz’N’More (Switzerland)\, and he has been the recipient of grants from the Swiss Foundation of Artists and Performers (SIS)\, the City of Geneva (Switzerland) and the Roland Hanna Memorial Scholarship (USA). DESCRIPTION:Myrtle Avenue Summer Nights returns to Fort Greene and Clinton Hill this summer on the 3rd Friday of every month on June 21\, July 19 & August 16. \nJoin on us June 21 for FREE live music performances on our Myrtle Avenue Plaza in collaboration with Make Music New York and Sing for Hope. Performers include the steelpan ensemble Unison Steel\, DJ Del\, and Kateryna Matvieienko. There will also be numerous activities for kids and adults all along Myrtle Avenue\, including double dutch by Elite BKLYN Jumpers*\, tarot card readings (& wine tastings aka Vino Visions!)\, caricature drawing\, face painting\, balloon twisting\, and a friendship bracelet making workshop courtesy of Canary Swords. \nAnd there’s still more — enjoy countless specials and activations from your favorite local businesses: Specials include FREE juice samples from Overgreens\, toothbrush kits from Ark Esthetics; Meet the Artist with Phaedra Paulson at Green in BKLYN; wine & cocktail tastings from Corkscrew Wines & Spirits\, Gnarly Vines & Tipsy; and dog-friendly photo opportunities at Bond Vet and Dogtopia. \nPlease note… \n\nIt’s going to be hot! Sing for Hope has provided more pianos for under-resourced public schools than any other organization in the world. \n  \n  \nWant to play our Sing for Hope piano? \nHere’s the when & where: \n  Dates: June 11 – June 30\, 2024 \n  Hours: Sunday – Thursday\, 9 AM – 8 PM; Friday – Saturday\, 9 AM – 9 PM \n Location: Myrtle Avenue Plaza at 536 Myrtle (Grand Ave and Steuben St.) \n  \n  \n\nAbout Aaron\nBorn on October 14\, 1981 in Lemoore\, CA\, Aaron Burnett began studying classical saxophone at the age of 9 and became interested in jazz performance at UNC Greensboro from 1999-2001\, then he studied at Berklee College of Music for classical composition from 2005-2008\, graduating with a degree in Professional Music. \nShortly after graduating from Berklee\, Aaron toured in Esperanza Spalding’s Radio Music Society from 2012-2013 performing on Jay Leno\, David Letterman\, The Daily Show\, Jimmy Kimmel Live\, and in 49 countries around the world.  After moving to Brooklyn\, NY\, Aaron also received the Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Grant in 2015\, and has also received multiple additional grants and residencies at Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn.  Aaron has since been awarded 2 Grammy certificates for his contributions and feature on Spalding’s Grammy winning album “12 Little Spells” and 2021 album “Apothecary Song Wright’s Lab”.  He has also performed with many other great musicians such as Vijay Iyer\, Teri Lyne Carrington\, Kurt Rosenwinkel\, Jeff Tain Watts\, Ravi Coltrane\, Joss Stone\, Corrine Bailey Rae\, and more. \nAaron Burnett also has released 5 albums\, “I Thoth So” on Truth Revolution Records followed by 2018’s “Anomaly”\, and 2020’s Jupiter Conjunct\, the latter two of which were both released by Fresh Sound Records.  “Anomaly” received a 3.5 star rating from DownBeat Magazine while “Jupiter Conjunct ” with Esperanza Spalding as a guest received a 4 star review in Jazziz Magazine.  Constant creative expansion is a mantra of Aaron’s and we can look forward to continued innovation and musical creativity through his work. \n\nThanks to Sing for Hope\, NYC Department of Transportation\, and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. \n  \n  \n
