September marks ovarian cancer awareness month and you may find teal ribbons along Myrtle Avenue promoting the national campaign that is spearheaded by Tell Every Amazing Lady (TEAL), an ovarian cancer awareness group that began in Brooklyn in 2009.
The Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, along with Myrtle Avenue’s small businesses have teamed up with TEAL to place ribbons upon the district’s street trees and storefronts. Since TEAL’s primary mission is to educate women about ovarian cancer and to raise funding for research, several businesses are providing an opportunity for their customers to easily donate to the organization:
Corkscrew Wines: Purchase a bottle of Sequals Friulano (it boasts a teal label) and $1 from the sale will be donated to TEAL to support their annual TEAL Walk.
Peck’s: Throughout September, Peck’s traditional black and white cookie will become teal and white. Profits from cookie sales will be donated to TEAL.
21 Tara: Purchase a teal beaded bracelet – available for $10 – and $1 will be donated to TEAL.
To learn more about, donate to, or sign-up for the annual walk in Prospect Park on Sept. 10th, visit the TEAL website.
