"Living Walls" Art Exhibit and Full-Flavored Friday @ Gnarly Vines, today

Fri, Mar 18th, 2011

Stop in at Gnarly Vines to experience the “Living Walls” exhibit, featuring botanical arrangements by Kate Hill Cantrill that incorporate various natural elements, like mosses, twisted sticks and dried elements, many found in Fort Greene Park, while enjoying Gnarly's Full-Flavored Friday, featuring Gewurztraminer, Cabernet, Petite Sirah, Amarone.

(note that the exhibit will be up at Gnarly Vines for a month. Catch it!)

Friday, March 18th, 6-9pm

More from Gnarly Vines: Galileo was condemned as a heretic for ascribing to Copernicus' heliocentric thesis about the universe. We're not sure the Heretic Petite Sirah we're tasting is quite so boldly nonconformist, but it's damn tasty.

2008 Valckenburg VA21 Gewurztraminer – Pfalz, Germany
$12.50

Full-bodied and a bit off-dry with pretty rose petal aromas. The tell-tale lychee and orange peel flavors are followed by more subtle spice notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove. Perfect match for spicy cuisine or richer seafood like sauteed scallops. If you like Riesling, try a Gewurztraminer.

2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon – California
$11

A deep, dark, full-bodied blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah, 5% Tempranillo, 2% Alicante Bouchet, and 2% Petite Sirah. Most of the fruit comes from vineyards in Monterey and Paso Robles with some Cab and Syrah coming from River Junction, on the way up north towards Mount Shasta. Great with open-faced steak or portobello mushroom sandwiches.

2006 Amarone, Cesari – Veneto, Italy
$50

A blend of the traditional Valpolicella grapes – 75% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara – that are air-dried until mid January by which time they've lost 30%-40% of their weight. These uber-concentrated grapes result in a rich, full-bodied, leathery wine with strong herbal and raisiny/prune notes that clocks in at 15% alcohol. A perfect pairing for strong, funky, moldy, veiny cheeses as well as game, grilled meats, sausage and peppers.

2007 Four Vines – Heretic – Petite Sirah, Paso Robles, CA
$35

Among our biggest, baddest, boldest, kick-ass wines, the Heretic is a deep, dark, opaque, smoky, gamey, leafy, spicy, firm and dare I say 'balanced'…like a sumo wrestler on a tightrope! This bad boy can stand up to pretty much any strong-flavored, spicy cuisine but goes particularly well with our neighbor Abdul's Senegalese Chicken over at abistro!
