Antonio Hart is recognized as one of the most talented instrumentalists of his generation.
His 20 years as a professional musician has allowed him to perform and record with many jazz greats, from Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Hargrove, Nancy Wilson, Nat Adderley, and McCoy Tyner, to Dave Holland. His 1997 release, ‘Here I Stand’, earned Hart a 1997 Grammy nomination for ‘Best Jazz Instrumental Solo.’ He has also been in much demand as a guest on more than 100 recordings, and on 7 CDs, as a leader.
In recent years he has also been recognized as an important Jazz educator, most notably, as a tenured Professor of Music at Queens College (CUNY). Hart maintains an extensive performance schedule, and continues to conduct workshops and clinics throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He feels very blessed to have the balance of teaching, as well as traveling around the world.
The Queens College Jazz Ensemble consists of current Jazz Masters candidates from the Aaron Copland School of Music. The Jazz program at Queens College was started in the early eighties by NEA Jazz Master, Professor Jimmy Heath. At present their program has students enrolled from countries all over the world, including The USA, China, Japan, Korea, Israel, Venezuela, and Russia.
