The International African Arts Festival is an annual event attracting an estimated 75,000 attendees from Brooklyn and beyond.
Now taking place in Commodore Barry Park, the festival has attracted world renowned as well as top local and international talent line-ups including Dinizulu African Dancers and Drummers, Marie Brooks Pan-Caribbean Dancers, then emerging singers like Martha Redbone, Blue Magic, The Mighty Sparrow, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, KRS-1, Lauryn Hill and India Arie.
The expansive vendor market, the African Marketplace boasts more than a hundred micro-enterprise vendor with an array of merchandise from jewelry, urban fashion, t-shirts, body oils to imported African fabric, artifacts and furniture, original paintings, hand-carved marble sculptures and much more. At the food court, talented cooks and chef offer from traditional soul food to spicy Caribbean dishes, to African, Latin, vegetarian food, seafood and gourmet style raw foods.
