Graffiti Zoo is an exhibition at Pushkin Creperie Cafe of urban pop paintings by Murjani Holmes, curated by Joshua Stulman.
Holmes’s artwork fuses the stylized illustration of Brooklyn’s graffiti culture with her profound sense of color and design.
Each of the paintings in Graffiti Zoo begins as layers of thin washes covering the canvas. Holmes then outlines her subject, working between building layers of color and her heavy linear illustration. She often uses vibrant and opaque backgrounds to clarify the image. This technique lends the painting a print-like pop art feel. Click here to read more about the artwork.
The exhbitiion is being sponsored by the Brooklyn Art Review and Pushkin Creperie Cafe.
