Greene-Ville Garden, the new organic and natural food market located at 373 Myrtle Avenue will hold its grand opening celebration on Thursday, March 10th. Expect food samples, cooking demos and store giveaways throughout the day, including an official store ribbon cutting slated for 4:00pm. Additionally, starting perhaps as early as this weekend, the store will be open 24 hours.
Store owners, Bruce and Kae Lee are no strangers to Fort Greene/Clinton Hill. They have been in the neighborhood since 1986, when Bruce's dad purchased a building at 77 Greene. Their enterprise investment in the neighborhood has grown to include fresh food markets, Greene Farm and Fresh Garden; eateries, One Greene (sushi) and Silver Spoon (frozen yogurt) and pampering palaces, Mirai Nail and Mirai Skin & Body. Greene-Ville represents the couple's seventh neighborhood enterprise.
“I think it's clear that we love the neighborhood,” laughs Kae. “Many prople were afraid to invest in Brooklyn but what we saw from the beginning was quality people that needed products and services locally so they didn't have to leave the neighborhood in order to shop,” she continued.
Greene-Ville is clean, well-lit and well-organized, a floor to ceiling cornucopia of specialty items, organic foods and some conventional items. There is also a variety of grocery items for those with food allergies, such as gluten-free items. The new Myrtle Avenue store features fruits and vegetables and a number of bountiful store sections, such as fresh cut flowers, fruits and vegetables, fresh sandwiches, meats, dairy and cheese, bakery and baking products, baby products and health and beauty aids. A wide variety of beers will be available by week's end, including beer growlers. The Lees have also recently applied to be able to accept public benefits cards in hopes that their quality store items can be accessible to locals across income levels.
The Lees also are in big support of local food purveyors. They carry delicious baked goods by Le Petite Temptation and delectable chocolates by Kopali Organics. Both local companies will be giving away samples and conducting cooking demonstrations during the Greene-Ville grand opening.
When asked about a possible 'health theme' running through all 7 busineses, Kae exclaims, “Yes, health and wellness. People want to live longer and live well.
What else to expect from Greene-Ville?
“We're excited to be here. We've spoken with our suppliers in hopes of working out better volume deals so that we can offer customers our best prices,” shared Kae.
Greene-Ville Garden is located at 373 Myrtle Avenue between Clermont and Adelphi. The full day grand opening celebration will take place on Thursday, March 10th.
