This past Saturday, MARP led a tree stewardship volunteer day on Washington Avenue between Myrtle and Willoughby.
The NYC Parks Department donated (and delivered) 4 cubic yards of mulch. Longtime resident Mary Cole solicited volunteers. Eight neighbors pitched in approximately 16 hours of labor. Several tree beds were weeded and aerated. All the donated mulch was spread over 20 tree beds. Low hanging branches from several trees were pruned. MARP organized the mulch delivery, provided tools, gave technical assistance, and performed the pruning.
This volunteer day was supported by NYS DEC Urban and Community Forestry.
