Myrtle Avenue + NStat

Since late 2022, Myrtle Avenue has been the implementing partner of the Mayor’s Action Plan (MAP) NeighborhoodStat (NStat) program at the Ingersoll and Whitman houses.  NStat is a city-funded, locally-based program that encourages resident leadership and provides resources for the community to create solutions for public safety and to increase engagement.  Those solutions are funded with $30,000 that is up for each NYCHA community to spend.

On Thursday, July 6, Whitman residents came together at a carnival, organized by Myrtle Avenue and the Whitman NStat stakeholders, for the community to brainstorm and submit ideas for using this funding.  The carnival was an incredible event with bounce houses, games, rides, crafts, food and more.  Ideas can be submitted by anyone over the age of 5 and those will then be aggregated into a ballot for the whole Whitman community to vote on later this month.

While NStat is new to Whitman, Ingersoll has been participating for several years and the community has spent the money on public art, youth art programming, intergenerational healing events and more.

Myrtle Avenue is proud to facilitate this resident-led program and to help empower communities to have an impact and make change.
