Meet the Musicians

Make Music New York is New York City’s only music festival for the people and by the people! Now in its 19th year, Make Music New York is a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. All of the performances take place annually on June 21st, the first day of summer and longest day of the year. Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music New York is open to anyone who wants to take part. From ten in the morning to ten at night, every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, sidewalks, parks and plazas to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers.

Founded in 2007, Make Music New York celebrates the passions of local NYC musicians, brings bold new artistic concepts to life, erases boundaries between performers and audiences, and energizes the city’s shared outdoor spaces. Their mission is inclusive, adventurous and fun, and they accomplish it by producing three seasonal music holidays during which music makers of all ages, ethnicities, cultures, and skill levels are empowered to take center stage.

Make Music New York is inspired by France’s “Fête de la Musique,” a national musical holiday inaugurated in 1982. Ever since, the festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in more than 750 cities in 120 countries around the world.
